We recently helped a customer in Central Asia resolve a key-expiry countdown warning on a BYD E2. The instrument cluster displayed a message that the key would become invalid in three days, raising concerns about continued vehicle use.
The warning on the instrument cluster
According to our assessment in this case, the issue was related to the vehicle being identified by BYD as an exported vehicle. The dashboard showed a three-day key-expiry countdown and advised contacting a service provider.

Step 1: Establishing the remote programming connection
We used the China-market version of Smart Link together with a Windows computer to establish the remote connection. The Smart Link IP network environment was configured to use a China-based connection, enabling us to carry out remote programming for the customer.

The photo below shows the actual connection setup used for the remote session.

Step 2: Reflashing the vehicle software with BYD VDS2100
Once the remote connection was established, we used the official BYD VDS2100 diagnostic tool to reflash the relevant vehicle program software.
The repair result
After the software reflash, the key-expiry countdown issue on this BYD E2 was resolved. The customer’s after-repair photo shows the instrument cluster displaying “OK”.
