Before buying a vehicle from China, overseas customers usually ask one question: what is the total export cost? The vehicle price is only one part of the final budget. Inspection, local transport, export documents, port handling and international shipping may all affect the total amount.
This guide explains the main cost items for exporting a new or used car from China. We provide a clear China-side quotation after confirming the vehicle, city, destination port and shipping method.

1. Vehicle Purchase Price
The starting point is the agreed vehicle price. For a new car, the price depends on the brand, model, trim, options, colour and dealer availability. For a used car, the price also depends on production year, first registration date, mileage, service history, accident history and battery condition for an EV.
We recommend confirming the VIN, configuration, mileage and documents before making the final payment. A low listing price may not represent the final purchase price if the vehicle has undisclosed repairs, missing documents or additional local charges.
2. Professional Inspection Fee
For used cars, LEO EV CAR can arrange a professional inspection by Chaboshi (查博士). The inspection helps overseas buyers identify accident, fire, flood, structural, chassis and major-system risks before purchase.
For electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, the inspection can include traction-battery and three-electric-system checks. Depending on vehicle support and the selected product, the report may include SOH and diagnostic information. Read our used car inspection checklist for the detailed process.
3. Service and Procurement Fee
The service fee covers the China-side work agreed with the customer. It may include communicating with the seller, confirming vehicle information, coordinating inspection, checking documents, arranging payment steps, preparing export materials and coordinating delivery to the port.
The exact fee depends on the requested service. We explain the fee before the customer confirms the purchase, so the buyer can distinguish the vehicle price from service and logistics costs.
4. Inland Transport to the Port
After the vehicle and export documents are confirmed, the vehicle is transported to a suitable Chinese port, such as Shanghai, Tianjin, Qingdao, Ningbo or Xiamen.
Inland transport is affected by the origin city, distance, port, vehicle condition and delivery schedule. A non-running vehicle, a vehicle with low ground clearance or a vehicle requiring special handling may cost more to transport.
5. Export Documents, Customs and Port Handling
China-side export costs may include preparation of export materials, customs declaration, applicable export licence procedures, port entry and handling. Requirements can vary by vehicle type and current export policy, so the final quotation must be based on the actual vehicle and transaction.
We help coordinate the China-side export process. We do not include destination-country customs clearance, import duty, VAT, certification, registration or local delivery unless specifically agreed.
6. International Shipping: Container or Ro-Ro
Container shipping
Container shipping can be suitable for one vehicle or valuable vehicles when a protected enclosed loading solution is preferred. The cost depends on the container type, destination, route, season and whether one or more vehicles are loaded.
Ro-Ro shipping
Ro-Ro ships are designed for wheeled cargo. The vehicle is driven or moved onto the vessel and secured on the vehicle deck. Ro-Ro can be practical for regular vehicle export routes, but availability and destination ports vary.
We compare the available options according to the destination port and the customer’s priorities. Shipping rates are not fixed: they can change with route, sailing schedule, fuel, port congestion, season and carrier availability.
